Wage gap: a choice to solve to achieve labor equality

A CCOO report places the wage gap in Spain at 20.9%, despite the fact that it is decreasing year after year
The wage gap is reflected not only in the remuneration that men and women receive, but also in the positions of command and direction, as the United Nations points out. A recent CCOO report places the wage gap in Spain in 2021 at 20.9%, and although the difference between men and women is reduced in similar jobs, they are still paid less.
“It’s as if women stopped getting paid in November”, complains Mireia Del Pozo, president of the European Women’s Studies Center and member of the Labor Court of Catalonia.

The new forms of machismo on the internet: how to defend yourself?

- Were you sexist and didn’t realize it?
- What feminism claims in 10 essential keys
- 15 sexist phrases that we should not tolerate
You post an interview of an expert talking about gender equality on your social networks and, suddenly, a bunch of anonymous profiles start to sink you, with data that doesn’t match reality. When you try to defend yourself, the disqualifications flash at you : “Go and rub”, “show your tits or pirate”, “shut up, whore”… It’s called ‘online’ machismo and it’s so coordinated and so aggressive that it makes you want to go out running away and not connecting anymore. That is exactly what they are looking for: to silence the voice of women . A conspiracy that looks like a movie, but it’s not.

Few, but more, female managers in the family business
Business families gradually cede positions of maximum responsibility to women, although they do not exceed 15%

Currently, the number of women in the managerial positions of family businesses is a derisory figure, but it is slowly increasing. In the last three years, the managerial role of women in the direction of the family business has gone from 11% to 15% , because the primacy of men at a professional level and within their own business family is still an obstacle. This slight improvement in the figures shows that business families are increasingly open to considering women to occupy positions of maximum responsibility.

The women (also) lose out with telework
According to several studies, the gender gap also affects telework in the form of worse mental health and lower wages

The gender gap also affects telecommuting , an option that has exploded due to the pandemic and which has not meant any progress in terms of equality . According to data published in 2022 by the European Parliament, the increase in telework has had greater and more negative effects on women.
